Track and Field squad prepares for conference championships

As the grind of the semester winds down for students and professors, Cleveland State University’s women’s track and field team has kept up its pace on the track.

Recently, the team participated in the Sparky Adams Invitational held at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.

The 100 and 200 meter dash opened the event for the Vikings with Chan’lier Myers finishing the 100 meter dash in 12.45, giving her second place overall in the event.

Her teammate Lauren Zawie competed in the 200 meter dash running to a time of 26.12, also giving her second place overall in the event.

In the 4x100 relay event, the Vikings would take home the first place overall win with the team of Tylar Mixon, Chan’lier Myers, Lauren Zawie and Hannah Gaskins managing to pick-up the win with a time of 48.45.

In the long jump event, Rachel Wenzel and Julianne Dorothal each managed top 10 finishes. Wenzel managed a 4.94-foot jump, placing her ninth, while Dorothal jumped in at 4.65 netting her 10th place.

Wenzel also participated in the high jump event alongside Jessica White. Wenzel notched a 1.52-foot jump, putting her second on the day, while White jumped in at 1.32 feet, giving her 12th place.

To finish off the day, Julianne Dorothal and Hannah Gaskins represented the Vikings in the event’s javelin competition.

Dorothal notched a 26.75-foot throw, good for 11th on the day, while Gaskins made it 20.45 feet, giving her 17th on the day.

The Vikings found themselves back on track at the Ashland Alumni Open held in Ashland, Ohio competing in their final tune-up run before the Horizon League Outdoor Championship.

Cleveland State found victory in the event through Jessica Finley, who managed to take first in the 5000 Meter Run event, with a 18:16.95.

Her teammate Kylie Scott also captured a top 10 finish with a 19:08.57, netting her a sixth place finish.

Anna Brandt showed strong as well in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase taking third place with a time of 12:16.10.

In the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay, the team of Tylar Mixon, Chan’lier Myers, Lauren Zawie and Briah Owens captured strong podium finishes in both races with the foursome taking third in the 4x100 race with a time of 48.19.

They then backed that up by taking second in the 4x400 with a 4:16.12.

The final event this season for the track and field team will be Friday, May 4 as they travel to Oakland University to compete in the Horizon League Outdoor Championship which will run through Sunday, May 6.
